THE EXPERIENCE

Finnish where it should be. Resource-aware where it has to be.

The wood-heated sauna is not an eco feature; it is normal Finnish cottage life. The unusual water, energy and construction choices exist because a grid connection, a drilled well and conventional construction are expensive ways to solve this particular place.

SAUNA
True Finnish style

Keep what is already normal here.

Wood, fire, water and time. The sauna does not need a sustainability story attached to it.

ENERGY
The grid is expensive

Make finite power legible.

Solar, a small buffer battery and the EV reserve turn an expensive grid connection into a system the guest can actually understand.

WATER
A drilled well is expensive

Use the water that is already here - if testing allows it.

Muuraislampi becomes the source only through measured water quality, appropriate treatment and a commissioned system. The constraint drives the design; safety remains non-negotiable.

BUILD
Conventional construction is expensive

Let three modules become the architecture.

Living / sleeping, kitchen / sleeping and sauna remain visibly modular. The terrace and the forest between them do the work a conventional building would normally hide inside one envelope.

SECLUSION
Remote does not mean silent

Tell the truth about what can be heard.

Most daytime sound is wind and nature. There can also be agricultural work, distant railway traffic and occasional evening industrial hum. At night the soundscape usually contracts back to the forest and insects.

TURN INTO CHARACTER

Participation and awareness.

Lighting the sauna, understanding energy, seeing where water comes from, walking between modules and noticing the changing forest.

DO NOT ROMANTICISE

Risk, failure or deprivation.

Unsafe electricity, questionable drinking water, broken essentials, confusing controls and maintenance are defects to remove, not authenticity to market.
